The Indigenous Professional Support Unit was developed;
To build relationships with staff in eligible Indigenous run child care services and
provide professional support, advice and training where appropriate, in line with Inclusion
and Professional Support Program aims and national priorities
To work collaboratively and provide advice to the PSC and ISA's to assist these organisations to ensure that professional support is culturally appropriate to all Indigenous children attending child care.
To provide advice to the PSCQ and ISAs on the needs of Indigenous children and child care staff and strategies for meeting their needs.
To make referrals to the PSC & ISAs when necessary to meet inclusion and professional support needs of Indigenous run eligible child care service
To Advise the PSC on how to ensure the general resource library is sufficiently equipped to meet the needs of Indigenous children and facilitate quality child care.
IPSU will provide these areas of support through the following;
Training
The Training Staff here at IPSU, uses the strengths-based approach to all aspects of their delivery. This style assists to identify and improve the strengths of the workers in the child care service. Our Facilitators prepare, develop and present workshops that are tailored to the needs of the employees, so that they are obtaining the highest quality training, entirely at their pace, language and time, yet gaining knowledge and information to provide those accessing their program a high quality Child Care Service.
Advice
IPSU provides advice to services that need assistance in all aspects of a child care environment. These services include Long Day Care, OSHC, MACS, Playgroup or Vacation Care.
Referrals
IPSU can refer services onto other appropriate agencies available.
Support
IPSU will also provide support to our services in way of face to face service visits, regular newsletters, forums and Conferences.
